AMARRE 2019 > Open call for applications


Amarre, in French, means mooring line: rope, cable or chain by which a boat is attached to the shore or to an anchor. AMARRE aims to connect forcibly displaced artists (or artists in exile) to their host communities. It is a residency programme that provides a safe working space for the selected artists to develop their projects and share them with the local audience, as well as connect them to the professional networks in their new environments. Each local partner will host and accompany the selected artists in exile in the respective countries with the perspective of supporting a culture of openness, free expression and living together.

Programme designed and directed by Collectif Kahraba / Hammana Artist House (Lebanon). In partnership with L’atelier des artistes en exil (France), A corner in the World (Turkey), Moussem (Belgium). Supported by the French Ministry of Europe & Foreign affairs

Selected artists will be hosted in residency in the country where they are currently based. i.e. if you are an artist currently living in France, you will be hosted in residency at Atelier des artistes en exil, AMARRE partner in France.


  • An artistic residency of up to 15 days to develop a specific project

  • Accommodation for the duration of the residency

  • Per diems for the duration of the residency

  • Internal transportation to/from the residency space in Istanbul / Paris / Hammana.

  • Rehearsal space and technical equipment

  • A production grant of up to 500€ per project

  • Administrative, managerial and artistic support tailored to the needs of each project

  • Regular meetings between the selected artists and local and international cultural professionals

  • Dissemination of the project through AMARRE partners’ professional networks

This call is open to artists 1) of Syrian origin 2) currently in exile 3) in France / Turkey / Lebanon (performing arts / music).
