Bothy Project > Artist residency call (Scotland)

Bothy Project is a growing network of exceptionally designed but simple cabins that offer artists of all kinds the opportunity to work in remote, spectacular locations in Scotland.

Applications are open to artists of all forms, such as visual artists, performing artists, musicians, writers, and those working across disciplines or in collaboration.  Priority will be given to those with an innovative approach to developing their practice and a commitment to developing and testing out new ground.  The organisers particularly welcome applications from artists from minority ethnic backgrounds and Gaelic speakers or learners.

Mid-career artists

The organisers have two opportunities available for artists who have been working for 5+ years in their particular field, and have a demonstrable history of realising significant projects.  Please note this opportunity is not open to students in full-time or part-time education.

Successful applicants will be offered a two-week residency at Sweeney’s or Inshriach Bothy (bothy choice dependent on availability), £1,000 fee, up to £250 towards travel, and £500 production budget towards a public project.

In addition to working towards producing a public project, the organisers ask that the artist creates a blog for our website (using text, photography, sound or film).  They are especially interested in proposals that engage and connect with the communities around the bothies in some way.

Early career artists

The organisers also have two opportunities available for artists who have been working on their practice for 1-5 years.  Please note this opportunity is not open to students in full-time or part-time education.

Successful applicants will be offered a one-week residency at Sweeney’s or Inshriach Bothy (bothy choice dependent on availability), £400 fee, up to £250 towards travel, and £100 towards mentoring.

They do not request specific outcomes from this residency, except for the contribution of a blog to our website (using text, photography, sound or film).  They recognise the value of the residency in terms of professional development, and are therefore offering a fee for mentoring after the residency takes place.

Residencies will take place in June 2019 at either Inshriach Bothy or Sweeney’s Bothy.

Deadline: 20 January 2019
