Yvy Maraey Institute (Brazil) > Open call for artists in residence (visual arts)
The Kaá program selects 4 Brazilian and foreign artists for a four-week artist residency in the rural area of Porto Alegre, South Brazil. The program covers travel costs (round-trip), meals and accommodation, besides a fee for production costs.
The call is open for Brazilians and foreign artists, who have been professionally active for at least 5 years. Kaá, the Yvy Maraey Institute’s International Artist-in-Residence program, will be carried out from March 20th to April 20th, 2019, and opens an artist call to select 4 visual artists. The call is open for Brazilians and foreign artists, who have been professionally active for at least 5 years. One of the vacancies will be given to an artist residing in Rio Grande do Sul.
The project was awarded in the call #juntospelacultura_2_ of Rio Grande do Sul Fund for Cultural Support, with additional funding from COINCIDENCIA - Swiss & South American Cultural Exchanges.
During the four-week residency, selected artists will create contemporary art works and installations – permanent and / or temporary interventions – around the 25 acres of the Institute. The program seeks to give visibility to the artistic practices that question the contradictions and ambivalences of the complex relationship between art and nature.
The Yvy Maraey Institute (Land Without Evil in Tupi-Guarani) is a non-profit organization that promotes experimental, ecological and sustainable art practices. Located in an 25 acres area in the extreme South of Porto Alegre, the Institute has as its mission the experience of art with nature. It promotes innovative and interdisciplinary actions that take the environment as a space at risk and permanent conservation. The institute is the ideal place for artistic, cultural and environmental practices.
