EUROPALIA CURATOR’S AWARD > Open call for emerging Belgium-based curators to develop a project with Europalia Indonesia (Belgium)
For its upcoming festival, EUROPALIA INDONESIA, the project evolves to become a curator’s award. First and unique in Belgium, EUROPALIA CURATOR’S AWARD, aims to give financial and logistic resources to an emergent curator in order to develop an ambitious project with three artists of her/his choice. The project will be realized in three stages: selection of the project (February 2017), residency in Indonesia of the curator and the three artists (about one month between May and November 2017) and presentation in Belgium of the new creations in a venue to be determined in function of the nature of the project (in January 2018).
For EUROPALIA CURATOR’S AWARD the organisers would like to address the subject of biodiversity and related ecological questions in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the world’s richest nations in terms of its biodiversity. In the 19th century, Wallace discovered in Indonesia the missing link between the ecozones of Asia and Australia. The discovery of what is now called the ‘Wallace line’ reinforced Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and put Indonesia further in the spotlights of the scientific researches of those times1. Today, the multiple questionings about climate changes, environmental issues and biodiversity have a special resonance into the immense archipelago of more than 17 000 islands.
The selected curator will manage a total budget of approximately 25 000€ (including residency expenses, fees, production, installation of the new works and small publication).
- Curator and artists must be based in Belgium and be under 40.
- The curator should have a good knowledge of English as it will be the language of communication.
Deadline: 22 January 2017
