British Council was established in Ethiopia in 1943 and currently employs 95 staff working from its Addis Ababa offices and four regional business units, covering a range of activities across the Arts, English, Education & Society.
Across the region government priorities focus on economic growth, education and skills, and youth employment. The opportunity and challenge for prosperity and security is the population explosion, meeting aspirations of a youthful continent. BC ambition to reach millions of people through improved education systems and provision of alternative pathways to work addresses the challenge. Providing opportunities reduces the numbers of young people marginalised from Africa’s projected growth, and demonstrates that the UK can play a part in innovation and business growth on the continent.
The British Council has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Regional Arts Director to lead the SSA Regional team on its delivery of the Sub Saharan Africa region Arts Plan, ensuring it delivers required financial and impact targets, in accordance with wider regional, SBU and corporate priorities, which also generates value to the UK.
