Pontypool - Artist in residence opportunity - Wales (UK)

We are inviting applications from artists with a collaborative/participative approach to undertake a 6-month residency in Pontypool. Hosted by Torfaen County Borough Council’s Strategic Regeneration Team and jointly funded by the Arts Council of Wales and Torfaen County Borough Council, the residency offers the opportunity for an artist to develop their practice working with a wide range of stakeholders involved in the regeneration of an historic market town and to contribute to a longer developmental process that will both critique existing arts and regeneration practice, and explore and develop new strategies for engaging artists within the regeneration of the area.

Taking place from August 2012 to January 2013, the residency will act as a pilot project for the Arts Council of Wales’ Residency Programme and will be an integral part of an Arts and Humanities Research Council Networking Grant funded research project called In-between: Cultural Regeneration in Market Towns, being led by Intersections (a research unit based at Newcastle University), which is examining how participative public arts can reinvigorate the communities, identities and economies of market towns.

Deadline for applications 31st July 2012
