Participate in the first Art on Chairs International Design Competition, Paredes, Portugal (Deadline: 31 January 2012)
The Paredes Centre of Furniture Design, in partnership with ID+ (Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture), launches the Art on Chairs International Design Competition, a competition to add value to the product in the furniture industries of Paredes region.The purpose is to identify and disseminate innovative and original solutions aimed at industrial and craft production of chairs by the furniture industries of Paredes.
The chair is the chosen object, wood is the raw-material, innovation is the objective. All proposals should be guided by the three narrative categories that have been established:
- Making chairs, which includes clearly optimized projects for industrial modelling and production
- Imagining chairs, a category which should highlight the speculative nature of projects
- Sustaining chairs, aggregating projects which main concern should be situated within the realm of sustainability
The same author may present several applications for each category. Read more about the categories here. In each category, 10 projects will be selected, from which 3 will be awarded.
An international jury made of renowned specialists, presided by designer Henrique Cayatte, will select 9 projects for prototyping, which will be the anchor exhibition of Art on Chairs, to take place in September-November 2012. Other projects may also be selected for the exhibition but without being prototyped.
How to apply?
The competition is open to design students and professionals (designers, architechts, artists). All proposals have to be directly uploaded through the competition website. Besides all personal data to be filled in at the time of registration, following elements should also be sent:
- a 20 page pdf document presenting the project. You will find the detail of the information required in the competition regulation (5. Submission of proposals).
- a 1 minute video (mpeg-4) with 3D animation to complement the communication of the chair project.
