First quadriennal EU report on the protection and the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions
Each party to the UNESCO Convention on the protection and the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions has the obligation to produce a report every four years on measures taken to protect and promote the diversity of cultural expressions in all their policies. Party to the Convention since 2007, the EU adopted its first quadrennial report in May 2012.
This report goes beyond the culture policies to encompass a broad range of policy areas with a direct or indirect impact on the diversity of cultural expressions. These policy areas can help establish a regulatory and support environment enabling cultural expressions to be created, disseminated and shared locally, regionally and with the rest of the world. They include copyright, state aid, taxation, support to SMEs, information society and digitisation, but also education, international cooperation, trade and development cooperation.
